SIWES for Statistics & Mathematics Students
Statistics and mathematics students are a natural fit for a data placement: cleaning real datasets, writing SQL, analysing survey and sales data in Excel and Python, and building dashboards people use to make decisions. It turns the theory from your courses into the skills data analyst jobs ask for.

Why tech work counts as industrial training for your course
Your courses teach probability, regression, sampling and inference. Industry uses the same ideas every day, but through spreadsheets, databases and code. A data analytics placement makes you do the whole job: get messy data, clean it, choose the right method, and explain the answer to someone who is not a statistician. That last step is what most graduates are missing.
Check with your SIWES coordinator first
Statistics departments usually accept any host where you analyse data under supervision, including banks, research firms, hospitals, government agencies and data training institutes. Tell your coordinator the placement is in data analysis with real datasets, and list the methods you will use, such as descriptive statistics, regression and survey analysis.
What you would actually do
Real work for real clients, reviewed by a mentor every week. Each project runs inside one of our departments.
Clean and analyse a real business dataset
Take a messy sales, inventory or attendance dataset, clean it in Excel and Python, and answer three questions the business actually has.
Data Science & Analytics departmentSurvey design and analysis
Design a short questionnaire, collect responses with Google Forms, then analyse and present the results with the right summary statistics and charts.
Data Science & Analytics departmentSQL reporting
Write SQL queries against a real database to produce weekly reports, and check your numbers against the source records.
Data Science & Analytics departmentDashboard for decision makers
Build a Power BI or Looker Studio dashboard that a manager can open every week, with clear definitions for every figure on it.
Data Science & Analytics departmentA first predictive model
Fit a regression or classification model in Python with scikit-learn, test it honestly on held-out data and explain its limits in plain English.
AI & Machine Learning departmentWhat your logbook could say
Weak entries describe attendance. Strong entries describe work your supervisor can sign honestly. These are examples of the kind of entry this placement produces.
More on this in our guide to SIWES logbook mistakes and how to fix them.
Skills and tools you leave with
On site or online, and what each costs
On site at a Tech Faculty centre
No separate placement fee. On Learn & Pay you pay your department's regular course fee, from ₦50,000, with up to 50% off for SIWES students. On Tutor & Earn, if you are already skilled enough to teach, we pay you.
Find a centre near youOnline with Virtual SIWES
₦45,000 for your full IT, plus ₦15,000 for logbook signing, stamping and two-way courier delivery. Virtual SIWES is charged because it covers online supervision and the waybill.
Data work runs on a laptop, so Virtual SIWES fits statistics and mathematics well. You get datasets, weekly live sessions and mentor reviews online, and the logbook service handles signing and stamping by courier.
Do your SIWES online, from any city in Nigeria
No host near you, or your placement fell through? Tech Faculty NG, licensed by FMSTI through NBTI, places you online for your full IT and documents it exactly like an on-site intern.
- Official placement letter addressed to your school within 48 hours of payment
- Weekly live sessions and real project work with a mentor from your department
- Logbook reviewed, signed and stamped, with courier pickup and return to your city
- Completion certificate, recommendation letter and a project portfolio link
₦45,000 for the placement, whether your IT is three or six months. ₦15,000 for logbook review, signing, stamping and two-way waybill delivery.
Near one of our campuses? On-site SIWES has no placement fee. Only Virtual SIWES is charged, because it covers the waybill and online supervision.
Or reserve now and pay by transfer
Leave your details and a coordinator replies with payment details and your start date. Nothing is charged automatically.
Statistics & Mathematics SIWES questions
Where can statistics students do SIWES in Nigeria?
Anywhere you analyse real data under supervision: banks, research and survey firms, hospitals, government statistics offices, fintech companies and data training institutes. Confirm the host with your SIWES coordinator before you resume.
What will a statistics student do during SIWES at Tech Faculty NG?
Clean and analyse real datasets, write SQL, design and analyse surveys, build dashboards and, if you are ready, fit a first predictive model in Python. Every task is reviewed by a mentor and logged weekly.
Do I need to know programming before I start?
No. You start in Excel and move to SQL and Python as the work needs them. Students who already code can go straight to Python and modelling.
Is a data placement relevant for a mathematics degree?
Usually, yes. Data analysis applies statistics, linear algebra and modelling directly, and departments commonly accept it. Some pure mathematics departments prefer teaching or research placements, so check with your coordinator.
