SIWES for Mass Communication & Journalism Students
Mass communication students can do SIWES in digital media: planning and running social media for real businesses, writing and editing content, designing graphics, editing short video and reading the analytics. Most media jobs now start online, so this is relevant industrial training, not a detour.

Why tech work counts as industrial training for your course
Newsrooms, PR agencies and brands in Nigeria now publish first on Instagram, TikTok, X, WhatsApp and the web. A placement where you plan content, write to a brief, edit video, schedule posts and report on what worked covers the same skills your courses in news writing, public relations, advertising and media management describe, applied to the channels employers actually use.
Check with your SIWES coordinator first
Most mass communication departments accept a host that does media, PR, advertising or content work. Tell your coordinator the placement is in digital media and content production for client businesses, and show the project list below. If your department insists on a broadcast station or newspaper, follow that rule.
What you would actually do
Real work for real clients, reviewed by a mentor every week. Each project runs inside one of our departments.
Social media content calendar for a client
Plan a month of posts for a real business, write the captions, design the graphics and schedule them, then report reach and engagement at the end.
Social Media & Digital Marketing departmentShort video production
Script, shoot and edit short-form videos in CapCut for Reels and TikTok, following the brand's tone and a clear call to action.
Social Media & Digital Marketing departmentBrand graphics and templates
Design post templates, flyers and a simple brand kit in Canva and Figma that the client can keep using after you leave.
Design departmentPress release and blog writing
Write a press release, a blog article and an email newsletter for an event or product launch, and edit each one through feedback rounds.
Social Media & Digital Marketing departmentWhat your logbook could say
Weak entries describe attendance. Strong entries describe work your supervisor can sign honestly. These are examples of the kind of entry this placement produces.
More on this in our guide to SIWES logbook mistakes and how to fix them.
Skills and tools you leave with
On site or online, and what each costs
On site at a Tech Faculty centre
No separate placement fee. On Learn & Pay you pay your department's regular course fee, from ₦50,000, with up to 50% off for SIWES students. On Tutor & Earn, if you are already skilled enough to teach, we pay you.
Find a centre near youOnline with Virtual SIWES
₦45,000 for your full IT, plus ₦15,000 for logbook signing, stamping and two-way courier delivery. Virtual SIWES is charged because it covers online supervision and the waybill.
Digital media work is done online anyway, so Virtual SIWES fits this course well. You join weekly live sessions, work on client briefs from wherever you are, and your logbook is signed and stamped through the logbook service without you travelling.
Do your SIWES online, from any city in Nigeria

- Official placement letter addressed to your school within 48 hours of payment
- Weekly live sessions and real project work with a mentor from your department
- Logbook reviewed, signed and stamped, with courier pickup and return to your city
- Completion certificate, recommendation letter and a project portfolio link
₦45,000 for the placement, whether your IT is three or six months. ₦15,000 for logbook review, signing, stamping and two-way waybill delivery.
Near one of our campuses? On-site SIWES has no placement fee. Only Virtual SIWES is charged, because it covers the waybill and online supervision.

Mass Communication & Journalism SIWES questions
Can mass communication students do SIWES online?
Many departments accept it when the host does real media or content work and supervises you. Digital media is done online anyway, so a virtual placement here means real client content, weekly reviews and a signed logbook. Confirm with your SIWES coordinator first.
What will a mass communication student do during SIWES at Tech Faculty NG?
Plan and run social media for real businesses, write captions, press releases and articles, design graphics, edit short videos and report on results. You leave with a portfolio of published work, not just a logbook.
Is digital marketing relevant to a mass communication degree?
Yes. Public relations, advertising, news writing and media management all now happen largely on digital channels, and most entry-level media and PR roles in Nigeria ask for social media and content skills.
Will I get published work for my portfolio?
Yes, with the client's permission. Most interns finish with live posts, videos and articles they can link to, plus the analytics showing how they performed.
