SIWES for Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering Students

Engineering students can do SIWES in embedded systems, IoT and automation: wiring and programming microcontrollers, building sensor systems and connecting them to dashboards. It is hands-on engineering work your logbook can describe in detail, and it suits students who cannot get into a power company, manufacturer or telecom firm this session.

Why tech work counts as industrial training for your course

Electrical and computer engineering curricula already cover circuit analysis, digital electronics, microprocessors and control. What most students never get is a project where those pieces meet: a circuit you designed, firmware you wrote, and a device that does something useful. An embedded and IoT placement gives you exactly that, and the same skills carry into power, telecoms, manufacturing and building-automation jobs after graduation.

Check with your SIWES coordinator first

Some engineering departments want students in power, manufacturing or telecoms specifically, and some accept any host doing relevant electrical or electronic work. Show your coordinator the project list below and ask whether embedded systems, IoT and automation count for your option (power, electronics, telecoms or computer). Computer engineering and electronics options almost always fit; heavy-current power options sometimes need a utility or contractor instead.

What you would actually do

Real work for real clients, reviewed by a mentor every week. Each project runs inside one of our departments.

Sensor and data logging system

Build a temperature, humidity or energy monitor on an ESP32 or Arduino, log readings over Wi-Fi and show them on a live dashboard.

Robotics & IoT department

Automation controller for a real use

Design a relay-based controller for a pump, generator changeover or smart irrigation line, with a circuit diagram, firmware and a test log.

Robotics & IoT department

Embedded firmware in C/C++

Write and debug firmware that reads sensors, drives motors or displays, and talks to other devices over MQTT or serial.

Robotics & IoT department

Device dashboard and cloud link

Connect your device to a cloud service and a small web dashboard so someone can monitor or control it remotely.

What your logbook could say

Weak entries describe attendance. Strong entries describe work your supervisor can sign honestly. These are examples of the kind of entry this placement produces.

Weak: Worked on Arduino in the lab.
Strong: Wired a DHT22 sensor and 16x2 LCD to an Arduino Uno, wrote the code to read and display temperature every 2 seconds, and fixed a wrong pull-up resistor value found during testing.
Weak: Learnt about IoT.
Strong: Sent ESP32 sensor readings to an MQTT broker over Wi-Fi, built a simple dashboard to plot them, and documented the circuit diagram and pin mapping for the project report.

More on this in our guide to SIWES logbook mistakes and how to fix them.

On site or online, and what each costs

On site at a Tech Faculty centre

No separate placement fee. On Learn & Pay you pay your department's regular course fee, from ₦50,000, with up to 50% off for SIWES students. On Tutor & Earn, if you are already skilled enough to teach, we pay you.

Find a centre near you

Online with Virtual SIWES

₦45,000 for your full IT, plus ₦15,000 for logbook signing, stamping and two-way courier delivery. Virtual SIWES is charged because it covers online supervision and the waybill.

Engineering work is best done with components in your hands, so on-site or hybrid suits this course most. If you choose Virtual SIWES, you can still do real work: firmware and circuit design in simulators, then build on a starter kit at home. Our centres provide lab components for on-site students, so you do not need to buy anything if you attend in person.

Virtual SIWES

Do your SIWES online, from any city in Nigeria

No host near you, or your placement fell through? Tech Faculty NG, licensed by FMSTI through NBTI, places you online for your full IT and documents it exactly like an on-site intern.

  • Official placement letter addressed to your school within 48 hours of payment
  • Weekly live sessions and real project work with a mentor from your department
  • Logbook reviewed, signed and stamped, with courier pickup and return to your city
  • Completion certificate, recommendation letter and a project portfolio link

₦45,000 for the placement, whether your IT is three or six months. ₦15,000 for logbook review, signing, stamping and two-way waybill delivery.

Near one of our campuses? On-site SIWES has no placement fee. Only Virtual SIWES is charged, because it covers the waybill and online supervision.

Or reserve now and pay by transfer

Leave your details and a coordinator replies with payment details and your start date. Nothing is charged automatically.

We use your details only to send what you asked for. No spam.

Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering SIWES questions

Can electrical engineering students do SIWES in a tech company?

Often, yes, when the work is genuinely electrical or electronic, such as embedded systems, IoT devices or automation controllers. Departments differ, and some power options prefer a utility or contractor, so show your SIWES coordinator the planned projects and confirm before you resume.

What will I build during an engineering SIWES at Tech Faculty NG?

Real devices: sensor and data logging systems, automation controllers, embedded firmware and dashboards that monitor or control them. Every project is documented with circuit diagrams and test results you can use in your logbook, report and defence.

Do I need to buy my own components?

Not if you attend on site, because our centres provide shared lab components. Virtual interns work in simulators first and can buy a starter kit from the Tech Faculty tech store if they want to build at home.

Is this good for a computer engineering student?

Yes. Computer engineering sits between hardware and software, and an embedded and IoT placement uses both: you write firmware, design circuits and connect devices to the cloud.
