The Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is Nigeria's most important bridge between classroom learning and real-world industry experience. Here's your complete guide.

What is SIWES?

SIWES is a skills training program established by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in 1973. It's designed to expose students of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education to industrial work relevant to their courses of study.

Who Qualifies?

Students in the following disciplines typically participate:

• Engineering (all branches)
• Computer Science & IT
• Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
• Agriculture
• Medical Sciences
• Environmental Sciences

Duration

• Universities – 6 months (usually in the penultimate year)
• Polytechnics – 4 months (ND) + 6 months (HND)
