SIWES Allowance in Nigeria 2026: ITF Rates, Payment Timeline & Top-Ups

Every SIWES intake, the same question floods our DMs: "How much will ITF pay me, and when?" Here's the clean 2026 answer, plus what Tech Faculty and other tech-forward IT hosts actually top up.

What ITF pays SIWES students in 2026

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) pays the official SIWES allowance directly to students. As of the 2026 review:

• Polytechnic / College of Education students: ₦25,000/month
• University students: ₦30,000/month
• Duration: typically 4 or 6 months, depending on your school's SIWES calendar

ITF has hinted at another review before end of 2026 — check your Institution-Based Supervisor (IBS) for updates.

When does the money actually land?

Realistic 2026 timeline based on students we've hosted:

1. Month 1–2 of IT: Nothing lands. Don't panic.
2. Month 3–4: First tranche often arrives — sometimes covering 2–3 months at once.
3. Post-IT (up to 6 months after): Backlog payments continue trickling in.

If nothing has come by month 4, chase it in this order: your Industry-Based Supervisor (IBS) → SIWES Unit at your school → nearest ITF Area Office. Bring your SPE-1, ITF Form 8, and logbook.

What blocks your ITF payment (most common causes)

1. Wrong bank details on your SPE-1 form — the #1 cause. Double-check BVN, account number, and name spelling before submission.
2. Missing ITF Form 8 from your employer at the end of IT.
3. Logbook not signed by your industry supervisor weekly.
4. Placement not registered with your school's SIWES coordinator before you resumed.
5. Course not on the ITF-approved SIWES list — verify with your department.

Red flags: no laptop provided, no dedicated supervisor, "help around the office" style work, unpaid overtime.
