Remote Tech Jobs in Nigeria 2026: Where to Find Them & How to Get Paid

Remote Tech Jobs in Nigeria 2026: Where to Find Them & How to Get Paid

By Tech Faculty NG · July 11, 2026

Remote work is the biggest income unlock available to a Nigerian tech worker in 2026. A junior developer in Enugu can earn more than a mid-level manager in Lagos — legally, from home, in dollars.

But the market has matured. Random cold applications no longer work. Here is the current playbook.

The best remote job boards (ranked)

    1. Turing — deep vetting, but real long-term US contracts.
    2. Andela Talent Cloud — Africa-first, high trust with US employers.
    3. Remote OK — huge volume, filter for "worldwide".
    4. We Work Remotely — good for senior roles.
    5. Toptal — top 3% vetting; premium pay if you get in.
    6. Wellfound (AngelList) — early-stage startups; equity + cash.
    7. Himalayas — clean UX, growing fast.
    8. LinkedIn "Remote" filter — still the largest single pool.

Companies known to hire Nigerians directly

    • Stripe, GitLab, Automattic, Vercel, HashiCorp — global-first culture.
    • Andela, Flutterwave, Moniepoint — Nigerian roots, USD or hybrid pay.
    • Deel, Remote.com, Oyster — EORs that let almost any global company hire you legally.

    Getting paid (2026 reality)

    • Payoneer — still the workhorse for freelance and Turing/Andela payouts.
    • Wise — great rates, but Nigerian personal accounts remain restricted; use USD virtual cards from Grey/Geegpay to receive.
    • Grey, Geegpay, Eversend — Nigerian-first apps that convert USD to naira with low fees.
    • Deel / Remote.com — if you are a full-time contractor, they handle payroll to your local bank.

Tax note: Nigerian remote workers are legally required to pay personal income tax under the Finance Act. A one-hour session with a Nigerian tax consultant is worth every naira.

    What actually gets you hired

    1. A specialist CV, not a generalist one. "React + Node engineer" beats "full-stack developer" every time.
    2. Public work. GitHub with 3 polished repos, or a portfolio site with case studies.
    3. A LinkedIn headline that ranks. Example: "Senior React Engineer · SaaS · Fintech · Open to remote (GMT+1)".
    4. Async communication. Record Loom videos in your applications. It shocks recruiters in a good way.
    5. Nigerian-strong English is fine. American accent is not required. Clear writing is.

    Realistic timelines

    • 0–1 year experience: expect 3–6 months of consistent applying to land the first remote role.
    • 2+ years experience with a portfolio: 4–8 weeks is normal.
    • Toptal / Turing top-tier: budget 1–3 attempts at the vetting.
